Wireless network to normal pc?
At home I have a router which connects to the net. My pc and my sister are connected via ethernet to it with internet and I have shared her printer on the network so I can print stuff.
Now the problem is that the router does have wireless so when my father comes home with his laptop he can connect to the net but I want to know if it's possible for my father's latop to connect to the printer via wireless. It should be able to right? He has xp pro. Any help would be much appreciated. -Image |

Re: Wireless network to normal pc?
definitely you can print, printer is already shared in the network(believe it is connected to usb port on the computer) and in the wireless laptop just check the shared devices under network places or run (\\comp ip) and right click the printer and select connect it will ask u to install the drivers. If its a network printer install the printer drivers and configure the printer port manually for the printer's ip address.

Re: Wireless network to normal pc?
yes it can be done. he just has to be on the same network. have him set up a new printer on his laptop, and when adding new printer go to network and select your sisters printer.

Re: Wireless network to normal pc?
It is the same as any other computer on the network in terms of sharing.
Now if you mean can he connect directly to the printer wirelessly with out it being shared on the network then yes if the printer has wifi capabilities.

Re: Wireless network to normal pc?
No I am printing through the network via my sisters pc which is connected to the printer via usb. I know it works too since I can print things.
With my father's laptop the only network shown is "Workgroup" which I would assume is his but I cannot access it as it tells me "Network is unavailable". My sister and I are on "Mshome" so his laptop cannot find it. I know his networks works as well since his wireless internet works. When I try and create a network for him it tells me that the ethernet port is not working, which makes some sense since there is no cable. unless there is another way you create on via wireless? So, no new network, cannot find the old one. Any ideas? -Image |

Re: Wireless network to normal pc?
*Update
I have sorted it out. I got annoyed enough to disable the wireless connect it via ethernet make sure it's on the same network and finds the printer and can print. Then disabled the ethernet and can now print via wireless. For future reference is there a way of avoiding this method? like only using the wireless to change networks or find the printer? Thanks for the help guys -Image |
