Information Interview

Hi everyone:

I am a brand new member to this forum. I am planning to go to shool taking
Network Engineer this Semptember. I am not sure if it is the right time for me to get into this field, therefore, I have several questions I would like answered. If anyone who is working as a network support technician, specialist or network administrator knows the answers please reply:

1. What does your company consider to be top skills or requirements to work in this occupation?

2. What type of qualifications does your company prefer when filling this occupation? E.g. Diplomas, Degrees, Certificates, Licenses e.t.c.

3. What training programs/ schools has your company hired from in the past?

4. Do you hire new graduates in this program?

5. Will there be jobs in this field in the future?

6. Wage range?

7. Is this seasonal or year round employment?

I would appreciate your time taking to answer those questions.

Re: Information Interview

It really depends on the employer. Some have deals with schools that they work with graduates. Most don't however.

The best thing you can have is experience. I haven't seen a tech job lately that didn't require a degree or equivalent experience. You can look up the estimated wages depending on the job.

As far as certifications go they are nice to have, but expensive to get. Some employers put a high value on them and others put little to no value on them. So there is no standardized requirements.

IT jobs are growing so it is a good field to be getting into.

Thank you Lorjack for replying.

What is your title and company name?

Re: Information Interview

I don't exchange personal info on public sites for obvious reasons.

You have the resources to answer all your questions yourself. Some good things you can do is go to job fairs and talk with the employers there. Also, setup a meeting with instructors at different colleges and hear what they have to say. And even if you aren't looking to go to a technical school speak with the instructors there anyways. Most of them have or are working i the field and have a wealth of knowledge.
