intermitant internet

hi everyone.
i have just built a new system running on vista ultimate 32 bit,the problem is i can only connect to the internet every now and again.sometimes i swithch my machine on its fine but other times no connection.im using a asus m3n78 motherboard with on board lan.can anybody please help it would be much appritiated

maybe you need a Vista compatible device driver...

http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/category/6/

go to the above website and download the Asus realtek 8111c lan v device driver and install it in the place of the existing one...

see if this new device driver fixes your problem...

If you could provide the output of

ipconfig /all

both when its working and when its not it should give us something to start with

Also, what the phyiscal setup? PC LAN cable goes to.... or is it a USB cable modem your using?

Hi,

Connect the computer directly to the modem and check if connection drops or not.If drops, there is problem on modem else with the computer.
Let me know the status..........

thanks everyone for your help tried updating driver but wont let me.but when i turn off windows firewall everythig seems fine .
im connected to router via ethernet cable.

Restore the firewall to its default settings.
