Speed problem
I'm not sure what the problem might be but my speed up to my computer is 4mbps (measured by a tech). The speed that I'm running at is 2.84 mbps as tested on my computer, I can't figure out where or how I'm missing just over 1mbps. I am running Vista (premium) x64, 8 gig of ram , quad processer, tons of hard drive space. Any ideas?

Re: Speed problem
Your upload/download speed will vary at certain points in the day due to issues like contention and what you have running on your computer.
If your connection from your ISP is 4MBit then 2.84MBitp/s downstream is a good speed. Check your ISPs Terms and Conditions. You'll find that you'll almost never receive the full 4MBitp/s due to issues like contention (You're probably sharing your internet connection with 24 to 48 other people and if they are all using the internet at the same time, your bandwidth will suffer as a result). If you want higher speeds than you're getting, you're really going to have to pay for a line upgrade and hope that your telephone line will support higher bandwidth.

Re: Speed problem
Interesting. I've never heard of an ISP that offers a dedicated non-shared leased line to a home user. Normally they're restricted to businesses and can cost thousands.
What speed are you paying for?

Re: Speed problem
I'm a bit dubious about the "direct line" as well.
