[SOLVED] Internet Very Slow

I have a HP laptop at home.

I have been using a 512 Kbps internet connection and the download speed was pretty well around 62-70kbps.

4 days ago, while downloading one file, the download speed suddenly reduced to 21 Kbps and from then it hasnt increased since then. There is no change in the service plan or anything.

I contacted the service provider and he too was unable to trace and rectify the problem.

I have even uninstalled few recently installed programs before restarting my laptop but this didnt help.

What could be the probable issue and how do I rectify it?

Please help me in resolving this issue.

Is your laptop connecting wireless or through a cable?

Have you tried rebooting your modem?

Thank you for the reply....

I dont have a modem. The service provider directly provides Internet through cable connected to a router located somewhere outside our home.

Are you sure the router is outside your home?
Where do you plug in?
Is your ISP responsible for the router?
Can they reboot it remotely?

It sounds like you have some sort of satellite connection (wireless)?

Do you have a PPPOE connection?
