proxy to no proxy, cant update windows

I have been using my college proxy setting for about 4 months.
when i came back for holidays, I switched off the proxy setting(internet explorer and mozilla) but I cant update the windows

Also my mc afee also facing a similar problem

even when I was using the proxy setting I was not able to update
but now after switching to LAN broadband still unable to update.

I suspect that something wrong with my internet setting.
is there anyway to restore my internet setting.

Also I am using Windows Vista 32bit service pack 1

I cant use windows restore because my checkpoints is not old enough..

please help!!!
