Disconnecting Wireless

Hi,

I have had a very frustrating problem for a few weeks now. Basicaly my wireless connection on my laptop will randomly disconnect from my network, even though the signal is good. Even if the computer is not being used and is actually using no network usage at all it will still disconnect !

It used to be ok, I then went to Uni and used a wired connection but upon coming back hoem and using a wireless connection it happens.

This is very annoying, especially if you are downloading something or talkign to friends and I keep getting knocked offline.

Before you say anything, I dont think it is the actual network. I have Xbox Live and that never disconnects, plus there are 2 other computers on the network and they don't disconnect either.

Any idea what to do ?

Thanks in Advance

Ben

Update the drivers for the wireless card.

Look at the bottom of the laptop or round the keyboard somewhere...

Re: Disconnecting Wireless

Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
  1. For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
  2. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  3. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  4. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
  5. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  6. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Re: Disconnecting Wireless

its also possible your internal wireless network card is failing...so it would be a simple thing to add on a USB wireless network adabpter or if you have a PCMIA slot put a wireless network card into that slot...after you have loaded the software that comes with whichever you choose to buy;

Re: Disconnecting Wireless

Great thanks !

Yea was thinking about buying a USB Wireless network adapter. If the driver doesn't work i'll give that a go.

Thanks
