Please Help!! Wireless problems!! Need help FAST
Hey Everyone.
I'm new at all this so please bare with me..I hope I don't step on toes..(wasn't sure if this was the right place to post.) Anyways, So I'm trying to fix a computer for a friend. They're laptop is running Windows XP Service Pack 1. It is a Dell Inspiron 8500. And there wireless is not working. In network connections, there is an Local Area Connection 2. Thats it. Ive tried to install drivers off the drivers cd. Its all up to date, as it tells me. BUT NOTHING WORKS. Ive tried Fn+F2. I have it turned on, but theres no little wireless computer icon on the bottom task bar and says nothing about it in the network connections. I heard somewhere about a chipset, so i installed a driver called Intel Mobile Chipset Rev: A04. Also, I have installed and un-installed both Dell TrueMobile 1300 Internal 802.11 b/g MPCI Rev: A06 and Dell TrueMobile 1400 Internal Dual-Band WLAN Card Rev: A00. So which is the right one. I have looked in Device Manager..nothing about wireless. So pleaseeee help. I really need help..fast. Also, I tried doing something about reseting something. After I did it, they said to look at ipconfig /all. So I did. It says Node type is broadcast, No ip routing enabled and no wins proxy enabled. there is nothing there about primary dns suffix. and then of course it has the local area connection. Hope i didnt throw too much at ya. any help would be appreciated. thanks ![]()

Re: Please Help!! Wireless problems!! Need help FAST
Are you sure your laptop has wireless device? Check laptop info on internet!! If not, you can buy external one, plug it through USB! Other thing is, if maybe it has wireless device maybe you have to switch it on. Some laptops (Toshiba) have switch somewhere on them for activating wireless card! Check for that switch! Also, I recommend updating OS to SP3! And check in BIOS for any info about wireless card...

And also under network adapters there is a broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. there is nothing next to that. So does that mean that i need to install a driver for the 1394 net adapter? i dont mean to sound stupid, but what is a 1394 net adapter in general? is that for wireless? sorry again..dont mean to sound stupid.. also, by the way, there is no computer icon for the wireless in the task bar thing, but there is one for the local area connection. also, when i go into control panel, there is a thing for true mobile wireless utility but when i click on it it brings up wireless configuratioin but there are no adapters in it. any thoughts? again thanks alot and please help me lol. thanks |

You should be running at least XP2, and there's no reason not to be using SP3 at this point. They solved a lot of wireless networking issues.
