Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
Hi, my wife's laptop has been used for several years without this problem. We have 4 computers, 3 of which are connected to the internet via wireless connection. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 2200. Yesterday morning it worked as always, however, yesterday afternoon it would not (and still does not) connect but the other two laptops work just fine. I get a message saying that there is hardware unplugged. No change in programs or drivers recently. Ideas?

Re: Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
Does it connect with a wired connection?
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
Just press Ctrl + V and it will paste the stuff that you copied.
The clipboard is what holds the information that is copied before you paste it somewhere.

You did it right. What Johnwill meant was are you able to get a proper connection using a wire?

Re: Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
I plugged the cable that normally goes from the router to my desktop computer, which I have never run wireless, directly into the problem laptop. Still does not go online. Did I miss a step?

Re: Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
Yes, I did. Or at least I think so. I didn't see anything like the un-bold letters/words and typed in the first line of bold letters/words where prompted at the opening of the window. I then hit "enter". and typed the second line of bold letters/words and entered. Then I rebooted. No difference.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Made Due To Hardware Problem
sorry jjonsalt,,,seems like you had already tried this procedure before with the same results....
I know its frustrating you to no end... it does me when I am faced with this problem. are you sure you dont have a Firewall program like Zonealarm running and could be blocking access to the internet??? there has got to be a simple solution to this problem. go to Start>Connect to>right click on Wireless network Connection Select Properties, in the General Tab , scroll down to Internet Protocol TCP/IP, highlite it and click on properties, make sure obtain IP address and DNS address automatically are both checked.... post back with findings/results |
