error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
i have a laptop running vista home 32 bit and a desktop running vista ultimate 64 bit. they show up under "networks" but when i try to access one from the other, it comes up with the error, usually. once in a while, i can see the laptop from the desktop, but not usually. Also, they will ping by ip address, but not by computer name. i want to be able to sync files from one to the other using allway sync. the firewall i use is mcafee. disabling it does not make it work.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
Turn off all firewalls
Enable file & printer sharing on all computers. All computers need to be in the same workgroup for normal network browsing and file sharing. If you cannot browse to other computers verify that Netbios over TCP\IP is enabled on the network connection. Make sure you are logging into the local machine with a user account that is on the machine you are trying to connect to.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
firewalls are disabled, both computers have a single user name and password- they are the same. netbios over tcp/ip is enabled on both. and file sharing is enabled on both

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
Let's see this for each computer.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands. NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
The desktop has a bad Node Type, which is the issue.
Try this Vista MS-KB - Fix Node Type Peer-Peer solution.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
I am on a VPN for my school, and they have a special program you have to run to configure settings so it can connect to the school's wireless network. if i run this fix, it shouldnt interfere with any of that right?

I can't imagine why, but obviously it's best to check with someone there, since I have no idea of the VPN requirements.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
i tried the hotfix anyway, and downloaded the x64 version, it extracted some files, which i then ran. it popped up a box that worked for a few seconds, and then it said "this update does not apply to your system" so, figuring microsoft messed something up, i downloaded the x86 version as well, and got the same problem.

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
In addition, other computers can usually access files on the desktop, and the laptop picks up computers that are not running vista on the network, but the desktop doesnt.

Did you fix the Peer-Peer Note type?

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
Until you change the node type from Peer-Peer, you will not connect.
You obviously didn't read far enough down on that page I provided. To work around this problem, manually set the node type in the client computer's registry. To do this, follow these steps:

Re: error code 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found
You want pretty much anything but Peer-Peer.
I'd use the B node, which doesn't ever try to use WINS, which you don't have.
