I use a program named SyGate (http://www.sygate.com), it's an Internet sharing type program that I've used with Dialup, Cable and now DSL. It's not a resource hog and it's easy to configure. This was much better than MS's ICS program. Since I haven't taken the time yet to figure out exactly what a "proxy" is I don't if this is what you're looking for. :ufo: :ufo: :ufo: twas ps - I think the home/personal version is still free.

thanks for the replys guys...
Pseudo, personally, I dont like ICS. Had it before and for some reason, remote PC's just get disconnected. No errors pop up or any other symptoms, just quits. I tried to fiddle with it and I set it up numerous times without any luck. So I decided to download analog x proxy server. Twas, proxy is just a server on your machine that routes all the requests from machines connected to it...basically its like a gateway. For example in analog x proxy, you can configure HTTP, SMTP, POP3 etc... look at the screenshot below.. for more info, you can go here : http://whatis.techtarget.com/definit...i212840,00.htm thanks again :D |

I would add that an Internet Proxy also does cacheing. So, frequently visited/static websites have a much faster "perceived" response time.
