Hi there.
After two years of wiresless network, my stationary computer is suddenly not able to locate the wireless network anymore. It only locates every other network in the building, but not mine! It worked fine for two years. Yesterday I tried buying af new wireless lan card, but it still doesn't do the trick. My laptop however, locates the network just fine. My wireless router is set up as an AP with the dhcp function disabled. The wired router, which is directly hooked up to the connection, workes as a dhcp server. As I mentioned, my laptop connects to the router just fine, like it always has. My wireless router is a "Sandberg Wireless 54G router". My wireless lan card in the stationary computer is a "Edimax EW7728In 802.11n, 32-bit PCI Adapter" - Brand new. (the drivers installed are the newest available from there website) My wireless lan card in the laptop (which is working) is a "Sitecom wireless network PC-Card 54G WL-112, cardbus." Does anyone know this problem? What could have caused it, and how am I able to solve it? Anyone please help me. ![]() I do know a little about setting up a wireless network, but I really do need some help with this. Never seen anything like it. ![]() Lasse - Denmark. |

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
My OS on the stationary is Windows Vista SP 1, and the OS in the laptop is Windows XP SP 2.
I use af WPA2 encryption (TKIP). For a long time I had it unprotected, but changed this, as the network disappeared, and I already had to set up the router because of a restart. On the stationary computer, which has the problem, I use an antivirus program called F-Secure combined with the windows-integrated "Windows Defender" with all the features enabled. F-secure is also a program blocking spam and spyware, and it works as an internet-shield. I also have the windows vista firewall turned on. On the laptop I use AVG Antivirus Free edition, with the windows XP firewall turned on. The laptop, however, finds the wireless signal just fine. Today I discovered that one of the guys living in the building, has the exact same wireless router as me, because I could connect to it, because it was unprotected. (It had the exact same firmware etc.) This worked fine with the stationary computer. So it does work with the router - one question answared. ![]() Could the problem be, that my stationary computer is only about 1,5 metres from the wireless router? Could this be the reason why it can't find the signal, because it needs a longer distance? |

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
Actually the closer you are to the router the better signal that you will get. Have you updated the drivers for the wireless card?

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
Are you saying that the network disappeared after turning on WPA2?

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
I have the newest available drivers for my router and my wireless lan card.
The signal was already gone when I turned on the WPA2, and afterwords it still worked fine on my laptop, so that's not the issue. When it disappeard, I didn't use an encryption. This is just too wired, I hope you guys can help me. Maybe formatting my hd will help, but this should be the very last possibily. Is Vista known for having unsolvable problems, when it comes to SP1? Thanks for helping. |

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
I have SP1 on a Vista laptop and desktop, works just fine with wireless on both machines.
Does this machine connect properly with a wired connection? Let's start by removing ALL encryption from the router, removing ALL stored wireless profiles from the Vista machine, then trying to connect to the router. ALso, I'd like to see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
I don't know if you know a way of translating this into english, since my version of Vista is danish.
I am online right now using a wire, and the wireless connection on the laptop still works a charm. The problem is that I cant find the network on the desktop computer. It's not on the list of available networks. But here it goes: Microsoft Windows [version 6.0.6001] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. Alle rettigheder forbeholdes. Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
Does the desktop see any wireless networks? Are you using Windows WZC or a 3rd party wireless client?

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
Yes it see's every other network in the building, and I can access all the unprotected ones.
With the driver I am able to use both the windows wireless program and the third party app.. Neither can find the network in my apartment. It's able to see all the other networks in the building. |

Re: Wireless network suddenly gone?
Try changing the channel for your network, preferably one that all the other networks aren't using.
