problem with internet connecion

Hi

I have a problem with my internet connection.

I currently use broadband to connect to the internet, that has a speed of 4.4 meg. My computer is located in one of the bedrooms and because it is located about 10 metres away from the telephone socket I have to use an extension wire (adsl line) to connect the modem to the telephone socket.

the problem is that the adsl line is only capable of delivering at a speed of about 1 meg, and therefore it is slowing down the internet connection. I have tried looking for an adsl line ( or any other wire ) that has a speed greater than 1 meg, but have not been able to find one.

I don't want to use a wireless router because of security and interference problems.

Could someone suggest an inexpensive solution to this problem.

Regards,
Kareem

You need a twisted pair telephone cable, not the flat cable. Flat cable kills the speed of DSL/ADSL. The other way is to keep the wire to the modem short and use a CAT5 cable from the modem to the computer. A 15 meter CAT5 cable should be reasonable if purchased mail-order.

Johnwill,

are you saying that i should place the modem next to the phone socket. and then connect the modem to the computer using a 10m cat 5 cable.

Kareem

Yes, that would be the best solution.
