Getting Dial-up like speeds from my Broadband! Something sure aint right...

Ive had BT Broadband 2mb for the past few years with generally no serious problems. However around 4 days ago my Internet speeds which were usually around 1 to 2 mb have dropped for no apparent reason to around the level you would expect from a dial-up connection :(

My router comes on, seems to me working fine with all lights bar USB lit up, as I would expect, however the DSL light soon goes off fully and doesnt come back again.

Ive tried countless tests from the BT website to no avail, and have been trying to figure out the problem for days.. Hopefully some kind person here can help me out!

Ive checked BT's website to make sure its not an area problem, which it is not. I have no 'crakling' down phone lines which would indicate a line problem.

Some info:

Im using a BT Voyager 2091 router, connected via ethernet to my pc, the DSL cable is connected to my phone socket, also have filter boxes at every phone socket (which when checked using a normal phone seem to be working OK).

ADSL Speed (DS/US) 6624/448 Kbps
LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway 217.32.96.186
Primary DNS Server 194.72.9.34
Secondary DNS Server 62.6.40.178

Firmware Version 2.21.05.08m_A2pB018c1.d16d
Boot Loader Version 1.0.37-21.6.8
Wireless Driver Version 3.91.39.0 (Wireless is enabled)
Wireless BSSID 00:11:F5:D2:32:12
Ethernet MAC Address 00:11:F5:D2:32:0F

Line Mode G.DMT Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave Line Up Time 00:00:58:06
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 6624 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 14.6 dB 21.0 dB
Line Attenuation 32.0 dB 15.5 dB
Output Power 19.8 dBm 11.8 dBm

I think im right in saying that the results would suggest my Broadband is running correctly? ie. "Line Rate 6624 Kbps 448 Kbps"

So im starting to think that some how my PC is using some other connection rather than my Broadband? though this could be totally wrong ><

To make matters even more confusing, when I open my BT Broadband Desktop Help program, the Network Health indicator tells me I am fully connected.

Looking at Device Manager > Netword adaptors, only two things come up; '1394 Net adapter' & Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. Im not sure if either of these are actually my BTBraodband router connection? I thought the name would abit more obvious :s

Another possible cause of this I think could be with my router itself, Ive noticed from time time the 'power' light will turn off, even while other ethernet, wireless, Internet etc lights, remain lit up? Whaddafook.

Any help that isnt 'turn it off and on again' (which I have definitly tried) would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks for the help,

Edd.

Re: Getting Dial-up like speeds from my Broadband! Something sure aint right...

Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and do the following test, post the results here.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

DSLReports

Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.
