Network Cards Randomly Stop Working
I have Roadrunner internet access, which I run through a router for the firewall. It is connected to my MSI K8N Neo Platinum mainboard ethernet port or my Linksys TX100 network card, and it randomly just stops working alltogether.
I downloaded the latest drivers, updated the bios, reformatted the HDD, and have done a myriad of other things to get the problem resolved, but it continues. The only way to correct it is to totally uninstall the nForce drivers and reinstall them. This lead me to believe the mainboard was faulty. I disabled the ethernet port on that and installed a reliable Linksys network card I had sitting around. After about 24 hours the problem appeared again. This time uninstalling the network card, rebooting, and reinstalling the drivers didn’t' work. But it got my mainboard card working again. So that's what I'm using now. I'm almost 100% certain it is some oddity with XP and the nForce drivers, but I've no idea why that would affect the linksys card as well. Furthermore, when I "repair" the connection on the card while it's not responding, it actually clears and requires the network address via DHCP server. So I *think* it is connecting to the internet, but none of my applications can. Any help would be so greatly appreciated it's crazy. I'm tired of talking to Time Warner employees. Tier two tech support keeps telling me to connect with the USB cable. Um...I want to connect it to my ethernet like it's supposed to. Call me crazy. BTW: I had NetLimiter installed on my computer, mostly to monitor bandwidth usage from programs. I uninstalled it, but I figured I would tell you in case that helped at all. Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your help. |
