High ping to router
Hi, I've recently came to find out that my ping to my router is pretty unstable - it normally is =1 or <1ms,but it seems that as soon as I start actually using the internet the ping goes to 20-30.. 100 or sometimes even more.It happens when browsing, playing an online game or really anything, though for some really puzzling reason torrent-downloads don't seem to interfere with it.This problem does NOT occur on any of the other computers on the network so I remove the router from the equation.
I'm running on Windows 7 with an ASUS NX1001 lan card.I can't really pin point on when the problem began, since it wasn't that big of an issue until now and I've changed my LAN card,LAN cable and the actual OS in the last couple of months. I've tried reinstalling the card drivers and such - nothing seemed to help ![]() Thanks in advance for ANY assistance you can give me .

Re: High ping to router
Have you connected directly to the modem bypassing the router to see if it's an issue with the router? How about the exact make/model of the router and the modem?
You can also run these tests. Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here. The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run. DSLReports Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.

Re: High ping to router
If there is an available spot open, have you tried another port on the router?

Re: High ping to router
Not sure I made myself clear ;x It's a home network consisting of something like this:
Modem(Motorola, not sure of the exact model atm)->Router /ASUS WL-530g/-> 3PCs via a wired connection The problem is that only one of the PC's has a unstable ping to the router itself, not the modem, which occurs when using firefox/ie/playing an online game or such jumping from 1ms to 100ms and between. I'm currently running the Line Quality test and will post it when its done. I've tried changing the router port - doesn't change anything. // http://www.dslreports.com/linequalit...a94827/2528571 This is a test without the problem being present.. Will try to run it while playing something online /stream or a game or something/ Last edited by Unhumanje; 06-06-2009 at 12:48 AM. |

Re: High ping to router
Try this booted in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you get consistent pings. Do the pings jump all over when you're doing nothing else on the computer?
