internet slow when moms pc is has internet

The internet at my house is really fast cable, click, and you are there on whatever website, but when my moms computer is turned on, and on the internet its slower then dial up.

I tried finding out why her pc is using so much bandwidth, and can't figure it out. I was going to disable the network adaptor, and renable it, but I can't even disable it.

I get the error message saying that the network adaptor is using 2 or more protocols, and don't understand.

It really sux when I am trying to sell stuff on ebay for a profit or when I am gaming.

When I am gaming online I get kicked out of servers for high pings, or quit cause its really bad lag, ect.

When listing stuff on ebay it takes hours just cause of my moms computer.

I did format it 2-3 times already, but my dang sister won't stay off of it. I don't know what she did to it.

Alright, well with that in mind, your saying it is fine AFTER you format it, like directly after? If that is the case, my suspects are it has something to do with myspace or facebook [insert some other socialist site]. They are awesome for making computers not work very well after lots of browsing on it.

If thats true, just make a password on 'moms' account, and make your sisters own. Dumb down the sister's account (restricting), and at least put spyware and antivirus protection on it. That should help.

The two protocols..hmm. There should be only one really, tcp/ip. If you look under the network settings, see if it shows what the 'other' is. If possible, disable it and restart. See if that helps. It might be working against each other.

I already did those things. I got rid of my sisters account though cause she isn't allowed to use internet unless she has a school project then she goes under my moms account.

She is banned from facebook, myspace, ect. I blocked them, proxy sites, ect.

I didn't put spyware or virus scanners on it, but I did make it so she can't download anything.

I only saw tcp/ip.

But, so your saying its no different even after you format?

Check the task manager > networking (at the bottom it should say local area connection [of the sorts]) and it should say Network Utilization. See if something is 'running' bogging something down.

If there is nothing there (0-1%), hopefully it wouldnt be too much hassle but possibly move your computer close to the line your moms computer goes to (or route back to your computer), and use that. See if you get any problems then (downtime). If you dont, maybe its actually your computer? I actually wouldnt even know at that point, that would just be odd. There is a fault somewhere and it has to be found...

my computers vista home premium

Linksys wireless N gaming router cause I thought that would help out the slowness, and didn't.

All wireless adapters no wires.

No security, and all firefox, except my moms computer has internet explorer.


I forgot to add that the internet is slow when her computer is on. It don't matter if she is playing solitaire or if she is online. Its still slow.

You have no security software at all? This includes Anti virus, spy ware, malware, and firewall programs.

You didn't say what the models were of the equipment. What model of the router and network adapters. And there is no mention of your modem.

Well i would start right there then. I wouldn't be surprised if you have malware on your systems that is causing the problem. You should go here and go through the process of cleaning out your systems.

I never ever use security programs or malware removal or anything on my laptop, and its fine. Probably cause I use it mostly for business use. I buy and sell stuff a lot for myself, not for a business so that all the profit I make I keep. :), and all the profit I lose I lose is the downside. ):
