a network cable is unplugged?
I recently got a cable modem and networked another computer in my home to it. The problem I am having is that my main computer keeps getting a message that reads "a network cable is unplugged". I get this messages about every ten minutes or so. I will be disconnected for about 30 secs. then it will reconnect. I've tried changing out the cables and even my ethernet card and I am still having the problem. When my main computer gets this message and goes down it does not affect my other computer at all. I've yet to figure out if this is a hardware or software problem. Any advice on what I can do to fix this?

My computer is a desktop. I did like you said and tried different slots for the card and still no luck. I'm clueless as to whats wrong. If anyone else has anymore suggestions I sure could use them.

Check the "advanced properties" for the network card and make sure that "use power management" (ie:sleep type mode) is not enabled on the NIC. Typically, when a NIC uses the "sleep mode"...if the NIC goes to "sleep"...so does your netwoek connection(s)..
Hope that helps...... NetEngineer...... www.wsbconsulting.com |
