Wireless connection problems

I'm running XP on 2 machines in the house. On the third floor (wood building) I connected the cable modem to a Linksys (wrt54G) wireless router, then ethernet cable to the first machine. No problem with internet connection.

On 2nd floor I installed a Belkin High Speed Wireless network card. Every once in a while the 2nd computer obtains an IP address and I am briefly able to connect to internet. But, it either keeps disconnecting or doesn't see the signal. The distance between the 2 computers is only approx 20 feet. Any ideas?

Sounds like interference of some sort. Look for 2.4ghz stuff like cordless phones and microwave ovens in the area.

I had the same problem as you have described and the solution was to change the channel on the wireless router. Find a channel that has high signal strength (obviously), and also low 'noise'. Good luck.
