Hi!
I have recently upgraded my Win 98 computer to Win 2K... Now before this, this computer was networked with another computer(Also Win 2K) which was the main networked one. So I upgraded my computer and the network stayed there. I was pretty happy. But everytime I restart/shut down my computer I have to renter my network username and password which is really annoying... Is there a way to stop that? Thanks Tech:D

Go into control panel and select "users and passwords". Under users for this computer highlight the user you want to be the default and then uncheck the box "users must enter a name and password to use this computer". To be on the safe side ensure the user you select has administrator rights.

Sorry for the late reply. Try mapping a drive to the share on the main computer. Do this on the non-main computer. Go to My computer and select tools --> map network drive. Make sure the reconnect at logon box is checked.

Do you have W2K set to automatically login as a specfic user? If so, does this user have an account on the "server" system? When you enter the username and password for access to the network resources are you using the same account info for the account logged into the system?

To connect/login to the network share you must use "resource"/password to connect. for example...I want to connect to COMPA with a password of password... When prompted to login you must enter COMPA\password...as opposed to simply using just the password. In effect...you are saying "login to COMPA (resource) with the password of "password".
Hope that helps....... NetEngineer..... www.wsbconsulting.com |
