D-Link Di-604 Router is Slow
I have a D Link DI 604 router. My Broadband service is wireless. The installing technicans claim I have a strong signal. My broadband connection to ebay is almost always slower than my dial up Juno.com account. Other Web site are slightly faster than my dial up but not $40 per month worth. I have XPSP2 and any other upgrades Microsoft says I should have. I installed another 256k RAM yesterday for a 512K total. I run AdWare and Spybot. I used PCCleaner yesterday for registry cleanup. I have IE and Firefox and have tweeked both browsers according to any online help on how to run faster on ebay. I however was not able to work my way successfully through the D-Link site for firmware upgrade as it just kept going in circles. Help here would be appreciated. Also how do you know if a router is bad? Help with information on how to look at my router information wopuld be appreciated. The technican set the password and I know what it is but did not get anywhere. I am willing to read and try, so directing me to learning information is fine also. This is my first post. I spend quite a little time reading networking posts and gained some information on DI-614 post.

The first thing to try is connecting directly to the broadband modem and seeing if the speed issue is really the router or in fact your ISP.

Not knowing the exact details of what eBay sells, I don't know if you'll need their installation software to configure the modem directly. With many DSL and all the cable ISP's I've used, you can simply direct connect.
