Access is Denied for sharing on Home Wireless Network
Hello, I've been having a few issues with my wireless network at home. It's just a small wireless network and I would like to transfer about 20 gigs of files from one computer to another. However, after hitting "view workgroup computers," I do see the two computers, but neither of them can access one another. The following error pops up when either computer tries to access the other: "[Either comp.] is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
I have tried several things and am not sure where to go from here. I'll list the specs of the two computers in question below. The name of the computer comes before the colon: NBrunkDesktop: Pentium 4 3.00GHz 1.5GB Ram XP Home Edition NBrunk: Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz 3GB Ram XP x64 Professional Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: Access is Denied for sharing on Home Wireless Network
Try running the network setup wizard on both computers, this will commonly fix this issue.
Also, if that doesn't work then make a file in notepad and save it as .reg. Put the text below in the file and when finished run it. If it asks for your permission to add the contents to the registry click yes [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000 Oh you should probably reboot the machines as well.

Re: Access is Denied for sharing on Home Wireless Network
I've created the .reg file with just the text you suggested in it, without changing "restrictanonymous." However, after being granted permission to add this to the registry, this error message pops up:
"Cannot import [file path]: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor." Any suggestions? |

Re: Access is Denied for sharing on Home Wireless Network
Actually, my friend, I went in and manually made the same changes that the .reg file would have made, and I believe you've solved my problem. Thank you very much, I'll certainly recommend this forum.
My only issue now is that when accessing the laptop from the desktop, it says that this user has not been granted permission, but my immediate problem is solved: I'm able to transfer files so long as I access the desktop from the laptop. I'll continue the struggle on my own though. Thanks again! |

Re: Access is Denied for sharing on Home Wireless Network
Did you make the changes on both computers? . Another thing that you can do is make sure that you are logging with an account that is on the remote machine. Example:
You login as the user "share" on the laptop with a password of "password". What you would want is to have the same account and password on the desktop machine that way there is no authentication issues. Don't hesitate to post back if you get stuck
