Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Folks, I can't get our ACER laptop to connect to Internet. Its not the router or ISP as we have another laptop which will connect. The ACER laptop does not detect any local wireless networks. Was working fine until a few days ago. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. Gary

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working

Hi, it could be that the wifi must have been disabled temporarily. Press and hold the fn key on the laptop, then press the f5 or f4 it should be in the fkeys, it has a picture of a wireless sign, you need to press this and it should activate it.

The other thing you can do is, go to start then run and type ncpa.cpl
then right click the wireless adapter and make sure it is not disabled, if disabled click enable.

Lastly, you could go to start then, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore and restore to a date when working.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working

Faradd, thanks. fn f4 seems to hibernate. fn f5 then a icon of a laptop appears centre screen for 2 secs then disappears.

The wireless adaptop seesm to be enabled.

If I try 3rd option, will we lose WORD/excel docs saved on the laptop since last date when working (prob a week ago)?

Thanks

Gary

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

You will lose everything created after the restore point date.

Look in device manager: Alternate click my computer > manage > Device manager in left hand column
Are there any "?", "!", or "X" in the list under network adapters?

Now that you have a working wireless, you can create a restore point.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

I missed that post, we have to wait until the next reply, maybe if he/she tries to update their wireless card like you mentioned from the manufacturer or driverguide. Or if they manually configure their wireless adapter, or manually set-up wireless.
I did have one user that has wpa2 encryption and they couldn't access their wifi, I recommended they upgrade to SP2 and that did work. Maybe it will here too, because you need sp2 for that encryption to work.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Faradd / Lorjack, Thanks internet is working now.

We now seem to have a separate issue. The machine keeps turning itself off and re-booting - every 2 minutes or so. The screen goes blank. Some lines of (what look like) error message text appear but only for 1-2 seconds.

It then re-boots and states:

Checking file system on D.
The type of file system is FAT32
One of the discs needs to be checked for consistency

If do nothing this goes after 1 minute and machine goes forward to windows screen

Can you help? Thanks

Gary

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Alternate click on my computer > properties > advanced tab > click settings under start up and recovery > uncheck the automatically restart check box

Hopefully that will display the error message, instead of restarting instantly.

Re: Wireless Connection Not Working[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Wow that isn't much time, it does that every time?

What did you do to get the wireless working?
Can you get into safe mode?
