blocked port problem
Hi!
I am new here and I hope somebody can help me with my problem quickly .We have 2 PCs running xp sp3 connected via wireless router. The second Pc connected wireless seems to cut out a lot over the last 3-4 days. I tried to get the router support people to help, the PC does ping alright (and can connect via the local network to the other Pc), but port 80 seems to be blocked for some reason, so Internet doesn't work. I ran adware and Mcafe and there doesn't seem to be anything there. I tried to restore the system to an earlier date (even in safe mode), but always get the message that the restore wasn't possible. ![]() ![]() ![]() any suggestions as to what else I can do to restore the PC to how it was just a few days ago or to how to unblock the port or figure out why and how it happens... Thanks!!! |

Re: blocked port problem
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: blocked port problem
meanwhile, I thought I should mention, I am posting this via the 'BAD' PC. I initially had some internet connectivity again, seemingly the websites that are open already do still work, but for others I am getting the can't connect error message...
during this the yahoo ping sometimes works and mostly doesn't and now suddenly I seem to get into other sites as well.... I am extremely confused. I also checked my firewall settings (nothing is set to a very high level there), but have the same problems turning the firewall off completely. Re: blocked port problem
I'm confused too, don't know what to make of that.
The variability seems to suggest you possibly have spyware/malware.

well, good to have you confused as well. ![]() Meanwhile I have IE running for a bit again as you can see. I deleted a lot of programs, user accounts, IE content for all users, etc,... oh, and I did run an extended virus check and it did find 4 viruses, though in the Quarantaine folder; also turned my system restore off and back on again and am hoping to get viable restore points following this. but what for now seems to have helped immediately in the end was changing the preferred DNS server to obtain DNS automatically. Not sure at all if I was allowed to do that, does that have anything to do with Netvision? Hopefully it will keep working this way but also why has it worked before and wouldn't over sudden? Wish me luck
