Comcast Cable Internet speeds?
So I have 3 computers in the house. My parents which is an older Compaq running XP with 512MB RAM, slow *** Sempron processor. My computer which is on XP with 3.5GB RAM, 2x 500GB HDD's, and a AMD dual core 2.4ghz each core. My brother's is XP 64bit, 4GB RAM, AMD dual core 2.6ghz each core and a 500GB HDD. just quick stats.
Anyways, we have Comcast Cable Internet and we pay for the faster one, the one rated at 11Mbits. My friends, 2 of which are 30 seconds away and one of which is around 20 minutes away, all have the 6Mbits connection. The computers in my house also blow theirs away, when we download things here we get around 100-180Kbytes/sec, when I go to their house, they get around 500-800Kbytes/sec. I don't have viruses, I cleared cookies, hard drive space is sufficient, none of that little stuff is affecting it. I've called Comcast and they say the connection looks fine between us and them, they reset it, I'll get 400Kbytes/sec for 5 mins, then goes back to normal. What could be causing this? |

Re: Comcast Cable Internet speeds?
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.
The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run. DSLReports Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.
