ok I've set up everything! I've networked it properly for my Desktop (XP) to print to my laptop (vista)! and when I go and print from the desktop and come to the laptop and open the box to see what's printing, the document is there, but it hasn't started to print and it has been sitting there 2 whole days!
my desktop is the main location for my router and it is wireless also! do y'all think that's the problem??? and/or should i switch them around?? |

Re: Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
I'm not busting but I'm having a hard time following your problem....Correct me if i'm wrong. You have two computers.... One being a laptop and the other being a desktop?
The printer is connected to your desktop and you are trying to print to it from your laptop? |

Re: Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
ok...I know this doesn't fix your problem but why don't you just go with a print server. That way you don't have to worry about your laptop being on when you need to print from your desktop. Your can typically pick one of these up for fairly cheap $40

Re: Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
Anyway if your not interested in a print server and you want to leave the printer hooked up to the laptop then I have a few questions
1) For both PC and Laptop...Wired or Wireless 2) Whats your work group and do both machines have the same work group 3) File and printer sharing enabled and is it setup in the windows firewall settings? 4) Are TCP/IP settings statically assigned or dynamically assigned? |

Re: Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
for number #4....Click Start, Run, type CMD. A black dos screen will come up. Type IPCONFIG/all.
Post the results for both of them. Also 1) Do you have a software firewall on either of these machines other than windows firewall. 2) Can you print a test page from the laptop. Right click on the printer and click Properties then Print Test Page? 3) When you setup the printer on the Desktop did you use the machine name or the IP address of the laptop |

Re: Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
Try installing the printer on the desktop as a networked printer instead of a local one. You can browse to it once it is shared.

Re: [SOLVED] Printer Not Printing to Laptop from Desktop!
For some reason I had the same printer twice in my printers folder but with different names, one printer was HP PSC 1400 series laptop and the other HP PSC 1400 series! So I setup both computers to use HP PSC 1400 series laptop to be the default printer! But everytime I would try to print it would never print! So about a couple of hours ago, I changed the default printer for both computers to be HP PSC 1400 series! Also for some reason, the HP PSC 1400 series would always set itself as default printer even though I had made the other one the default printer! So everything is working now!
And at first I thought it was my USB Hub causing the problem, but that wasn't the case though! Now I just need someone to help me to solve my other problem and I will be alright!! http://www.techsupportforum.com/netw...p-desktop.html Last edited by klavender; 05-05-2009 at 10:54 PM. |
