Trouble having laptop recognize hardware and the whole "Line in/Line out" thing

Okay, I know this may not be exactly the right place for this, and if thats the case I appoligize. But hey, this is somewhat networking, right?

Anyway, I recently bought a Korg Kaossilator (http://www.korgkaossilator.com/) and "Y" Adapter cable with 2 RCA (red and white) pulgs on one side and a mic/headphone plug on the other. The people at Korg do say that you can hook it up to your computer and record what you play and etc, and furthermore, Ive seen it with my own eyes!
I tried hooking it up to my Kaossilator and then that to my computer via the cable's mic plug, and looked everywhere on my computer and control pannel for a sign that it recognized the Kaossilator, but it just couldn't find it.

What I want to do is be able to record to my computer what I play on the Kaossilator. The problem is my laptop wont recognize it.
I hear that the mic port can function the same as a "Line in" would on a desktop, but seeing as my laptop is missing that, all I have is the mic, headphones, mediafire, and a few USB ports.

Will someone please help me to understand why my laptop will not recognize my Kaossilator and what I can do (whether it be getting some other cord and plugging it in via USB or mediafire or etc.) to have my laptop find it so I can start recording my Kaossilator Kreations on my laptop?
