So I got a Microsoft Windows Xp 2002 from my grandparents because they wanted to upgrade. I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the generic drivers.I noticed that the internet on this computer is really slow.On this computer the average download speed is 10-30 kb per second. I have another computer almost the same age ,but a lot more worn out and gets 200 kbs - 300 kbs in download speed.I have a LAN connection through cable from my computer to wireless router then to the wall. I did a diagnostic check

Re: Extremely Slow Connection
Try booting in Safe Mode with Networking and doing another speed test.
Is this running on a wired connection?

Re: Extremely Slow Connection
The connection is wired. I have no problem with memory or ram. The internet just doesn't seem to be configured correctly somehow? Ill go ahead and try it.

Re: Extremely Slow Connection
![]() ![]() Under F8 the screen didn't originally give me the option to boot up in safe mode. I had to turn it off while it was booting up. I went into safe mode and logged in as administrator. It showed the usual safe mode and other text on the screen. Then the screen went black and the computer rebooted. I did this several times.

Re: Extremely Slow Connection
You have a more serious issue than simply a networking issue.

Re: Extremely Slow Connection
I think I'd start by downloading and installing the latest drivers for the network adapter.
