ethernet simple network not working.

this is how i have it set up.

i use a speedtouch adsl modem:

vista computer home premium with a straight ethernet cable wich i swap around with my laptop, xbox and my mac computer.

up until now, for about a year its been working fine, it was a simple matter of unplugging the cable from either the xbox or laptops etc.

i have recently installed and uninstalled the new windows live messenger (9.0), as this did not work and was causing problems. however it did not uninstall 'smoothly' so when i tried reinstalling an earlier version i had many problems getting it to sign in etc...so then i used a program callled 'revo uninstaller' to get rid of all files.... then i made a fair few system restores and msn is fine... internet on the p.c is fine.

now tho... all my other devices i wish to connect up to the internet on recieve the message 'limited or no connectivity'. well the laptops do. the xbox says carnt retrieve ip from the dhns server or something..... :S

Hey so lemme ask ya something. The way I understand your setup is ur ISP supplies internet to you via Speedtouch ADSL modem >> then you use a single Ethernet cable to connect from modem to each computer when you want internet? Or do you have a router or any other equipment?

Also, please list the exact name, manufacturer and model of the modem or other devices you have setup for your network.

yep thats basicalliy it, 1 ethernet cable from the back of my vista p.c and then into the back of my xbox, and laptops (i swap it around with the 3) but it now dosent work on either 3!

and its not the cable because ive tried it with more than the same one.

i only use a speedtouch usb/330 adsl modem to connect to the internet.

im really stuck on what could be causing the problem :/ this happend after uninstalling msn various times and also system restoring many times :S
