Angry Networking nightmare

Hi

We have recently added a new computer at work, and I cannot get them to see each other. The new one sees itself on the network neighborhood, but not the old ones, and the two old ones see each other, but not the new one.

All of the settings are the same, but there is no mapped drive. When I attempt that, the space is blank and there are no files to list. To be honest, I'm not sure which files to map to.

Since we started adding the new system, we have not been able to get online on any of the systems.

Any ideas?

Thanx
Rick

Hi ricmyers. Welcome.

Well, to properly help you, it would help to know what operating system you're talking about on your machines.

I'll assume Windows ;) If they're Win 9x systems (98, 95, ME) then they will all need to be in the same workgroup. You will also need to have the Microsoft Client for Networks installed in your network properties. You'll also need file and print sharing installed.

Strange that you can't browse - you mean browse the internet?

What are your IP addresses, subnet masks, and default gateway?

I will asssume you have TCP/IP on all the machines. Can they ping each other?

The machines all have Win 98 SE on them (until I can get them changed over to Win 2K Pro)

My boss just called, and the problem seemed to be no net-beui. That was replaced and the 2 older ones at least can browse the net and will work for now.

I'll have to work on the new machine and double check all of my settings again, and recheck the cable ends.

Thanx for the ideas!!
Rick
