Hi, I have a Belkin N1 router at home and I have created a wireless network ages ago, i had three laptops connected to it.
Then one of my laptops broke and after i had it fixed I can no longer connect to the network. When i click connect to the network, it asks me to type in the profile name and wireless network name, which I left default "Belkin_N1_Wireles_3FAF22" and then when I click next it asks for a password, I type in the network WPA key that i set up and it say "invalid password". I know that this key is correct because that is the same one i connected all my other computers with. Am I meant to type in a different pasword? I dont think i set up any others thanks for your help |

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
The password is case sensitive try typing in capitals. Or you could reset you router and it will return to it's factory settings. There is a small hole labelled reset where you have to use a paper clip to reset it.

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
Remove all stored wireless profiles and connect as if it were a new network.
What patch level is the repaired laptop at? It must be SP2 or greater to connect using WPA.

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
Ok Ive sort of figured out whats wrong, the password it asks for isnt the network password.
Basically when I try to connect it says that the profile already exists and asks me if i want to replace it, when I click yes it asks for the profile password (Which I dont remember ever creating, and it is not any of the passwords I usually use on all my other accounts). I tried to create a new profile with a different name but it says an internal database error occured. The wierd thing is that when I go into edit profiles I dont see any there. Is there any way that I can I can recover this password or delete all the profiles without going through profile manager? |

Let's reset the stack to start...
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands: Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
ok did that, it partially solved the problem...
It no longer asks me for a profile password when i try to connect and it goes straight to the wireless network password instead. I type this in and click next and then it says click close to connect to the network. When I do that it does not connect to the network. It still sees the network and I can still try to connect to it but it is not actually connected... |

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
Did you remove all the stored wireless profiles? Have you tried disabling all encryption and connecting that way as a test? Can you connect to other wireless networks with this machine?

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
I dont know how to remove stored wireless profiles, none come up when i go to view profiles but it still asks me whether to overwrite the profile when i try to create a new one so i guess that they're still there
Tried connecting with no encryption, same thing happens. After I set up the connection (this time there is no password to type obviousely) it say close to connect and then it does not. I dont have other networks to try it with but i could connect to this one and others before i had it repaired (the fault was in the mother board and that got replace if thats relevant) |

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
Well, we need to know if it connects to any after the repair, since that seems to be the difference. Can other wireless machines connect to your wireless router?
I'd use a much smaller SSID and turn on SSID broadcasts, that may be the issue.

Re: Cant connect to wireless network (invalid password)
SSID broadcast was already on and yes I have two other machines already connected to the network wirelessly. Tried a smaller SSID and I have the same problem. It even still says that I already have that profile and if i want ot replace it even thought i dont have the profile since I used a new SSID that i never used before
