Networking problem between 02 PC

I have a Desktop & a Notebook. I tried to connect both through cross cable & also through Hub. Everything is successful - I am getting response from other machine through ping & even use Internet on a share basis.

Unfortunately, I am not getting both the machine in Workgroup though workgroup name is same. For this reason, I couldn't share files, folders & printer through network.

Please help me

Re: Networking problem between 02 PC

I'm assuming you can ping the other machine by computer name and not just IP address?

For each of the computers, I'd like to see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Networking problem between 02 PC

You need to enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP.
  1. Right click Network Places (Network Neighborhood for W98).
  2. Select Properties
  3. Right click your Internet Connection (ex. Local Area Connection)
  4. Select Properties
  5. Make sure Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks are SELECTED.
    • Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
    • Click Properties
    • Click Advanced
    • Select the WINS Tab Above
    • Make sure Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is SELECTED
  6. Click OK and Close Network Connections Window.

Re: Networking problem between 02 PC

I did it, but its not working. I can get my notebook with ping using IP address but using notebook name, ping couldn't resolve the name.

however, after making the changes, I am not getting both PC & notebook in the Network Place under the workgroup and its not allowing me to share file, printers.

I connect PC & notebook through Surecom Hub

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.
