DHCP problem?

I have an Acer One netbook recently bought, and the wireless connection works everywhere else (school, library, starbucks), but not at home. When the ip address is set to obtain automatically, it is stuck on acquiring network address. When the ip address is set manually, it says it is connected, but cannot really connect to the internet. Packets are low in regards to sending and receiving.

Ipconfig/all info when ip settings set automatically:

Windows IP Configuration

Host name......""
Primary Dns Suffix.....
Node Type.....Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled.......No
WINS Proxy Enabled......No

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description....Atheros AR5007#G Wireless Network Adapter

Physical Address: 00-23-4D-85-BE-41
Dhcp Enabled....Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled...Yes
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask....0.0.0.0
Default Gateway..............
DHCP Server......255.255.255.255

Ipconfig/all info when ip settings set MANUALLY:
Please note that when it is set manually the status indicates network as "Connected".

Host name......""
Primary Dns Suffix.....
Node Type.....Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled.......No
WINS Proxy Enabled......No

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description....Atheros AR5007#G Wireless Network Adapter

Physical Address: 00-23-4D-85-BE-41
Dhcp Enabled....No
IP Address: 192.168.2.19
Subnet Mask....255.255.255.0
Default Gateway..............192.168.2.1
DNS Server......192.168.2.1

I guess it indicates that the DHCP is disabled when ip is prompted manually. There are other laptops and computers in the house the connect just fine. Also note that I am a tenant, and the landlord who lives upstairs is the administrator for the network so I do not have access to the router.

I have also tried ipconfig (renew/release) releasing dns server, etc.
If anybody can help me, that would be awesome cause I've been trying to get this thing working at home for so long now.

Peace!

Let's see the IPCONFIG /ALL from a working laptop.

Re: DHCP problem?

Since you are connecting wirelessly, are you sure you have the network information added correctly? I know that a secure network that doesn't have the security info added correctly can cause the issue you are experiencing. Also, are you broadcasting your SSID? On Windows XPSP3 and Vista (as I don't know which OS you are running) when adding your wifi network there is a checkbox to conenct even if the network is not broadcasting. I have seen networks do what you are talking about when they don't have that checkbox selected.
