Does not have much to do with building websites, but

Ethernet is a method of connecting to a network (network is a gaggle of computer connected to one another so they can share files, folders, printers etc) or to the internet.

Ethernet means 10,000 bits (10 megabits) of data per second and is compatible with any computer system. Newer term is GigaEthernet or 100baseT which allows 1,000,000 bits (1,000 megabits) of data transfer

A firewall is seperates your local area network (computers in your house or office LAN) from the wide area network (internet). This can be doen with software (programs) or hardware (routers). Both of these block data ports (doors) in your computer system. Software firewalls manage ports by forcing data to travel in a set manner (which are set by default, but you can specify what to open). Hardware routers simply dont respond to most pings and are like big holes in space. They fake a public (WAN) ip (subnet masking) that wont respond to other computers on the internet, but they too can route certain safer commands to open ports in specified computers behind the firewall (LAN) such as ftp,w hcih is port 21 or http which is port 80.

The internet is a network, computers talk to one another by pinging ports (doors) and responding to the pings. Hackers can get into your pc by these ports. Firewalls protect you from most attacks, such as flooding or DeNialOfService attacks, which can overuse your system and cause a open ports for them to enter through.
