Roll Eyes Big problems networking 2 pcs with crossover cable

Hello i have a big problem with networking 2 computers with crossover cables . Let me start at the beginning... Both computers are running xp pro serv pack 3 i directly connected them using a crossover cable from linksys fast adapter to realtek adapter both end of cable hook up correctly lights are on. I have gone to network wizard and i have followed inst. First on computer that connects to internet via linksys dual channel wireless usb adapter I make sure and say that other computers connect to the internet through this computer gave it unique name, enabled file and printer sharing, it asked me which adapter i would be accessing internet with, and i agreed it would be the wireless adapter and then it finishes off and restarts my system i then go to the other computer and i run network wizard make sure that i say it will be connecting thru another computer to access internet give it a unique name make sure it is using the same group name and enable file and printer sharing etc and etc it finishes up and restarts the computer. Now is when the wierdness really begins when i go back to the host computer and look on network places the only computer that is listed is the host computer, when i open the subdirectories nothing just blank when i try to open up computers from same workgroup same thing. Also when i try from the other computer same situation only that computer is listed under network places on itself actually it says shared files from that computer. So i tried to troubleshoot... no there is no longer access to internet on the host computer until i unplug network cable from host computer then it connected right away i tried to go to the command prompt and ping the other computers ip address from each computer both said 100% failure nothing went thru. Host computer was given ip address on lan of:192.168.0.1 , 255.255.255.0 the wireless adapter was : 192.168.1.100 , 255.255.255.0 the client computer was given address of 192.168.0.96 , 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of 192.168.0.1 i am extremely frustrated because i can not get a very good signal with my wireless adapter from my bedroom because it has to travel too far and the one in the living room picks up the signal so very much better it is not feasable to hard wire the computer to the router because that is in our office next door and i live in a mobile home behind it and there are no phone lines to bring it over here. The router is a linksys wireless n ultra range connected to a dsl since we have satalite tv here they dont have cable in this part of town all commercial industrial. Since it is wireless n they dont seem to have any external range boosters other than what is built inside and it was only connecting up at 13.5 mbps snail slow so i have to get this in the front room and connect the 2 pcs together... Anyways what am i doing wrong? Please can you help me? Thank you

Re: Big problems networking 2 pcs with crossover cable

Configure the machines as follows.

PC #1:
IP address: 192.168.9.1
Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0

PC #2:
IP address: 192.168.9.2
Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0

Leave the Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses blank.

Make sure any firewalls are configured to put the 192.168.9.x subnet in the trusted zone.

Finally, you'll have to enable fine/print sharing on the machines and actually share one or more folders or drives.

Here's a page that describes the process in detail: http://www.howtodothings.com/compute...2-pcs-directly
