How can I gain remote access to my computer with no graphics?
I have a desktop computer that has some sort of video card issue and will not output a signal to a monitor. I have tried several different video cards and different ports (pci-ex16, pci). Its really frustrating because without so much as a bios flash screen I can't even figure out whats wrong. The computer is definitely booting normally as I am able to open and transfer files out of the shared folders on the videoless computer.
What I'm looking to do is connect via a remote admin program so that I can take control from my laptop's screen and hopefully figure out where the problem is. To this end, I downloaded intelliadmin which seems like it should do the job as it can take control of the desktop without having to install anything on the desktop itself (installing isn't easy when you can't see the screen at all). However, when it goes to connect to the computer, it asks for my admin account login info, which is just a username, the account isn't passworded. However it won't login. I know the info I'm using is correct, and I've tried every other username/password combo I've ever used for anything, all with no luck. Some info on the systems involved. My desktop (the one with the issue): Hp Pavillion Elite m9152p Vista HomePremium64bit sp1 laptop i'm trying to login from: Toshiba Sattelite a105-s4324 Xp Media Center edition sp2 If anyone knows a way I can bypass the login info that would be great. Also, if anyone knows of another program that I can use instead, that would either install remotely or could be set to autoinstall off of a flash drive or cd. I'm really getting frustrated with this. Any help at all will be great. |

Re: How can I gain remote access to my computer with no graphics?
Sounds like you have a bad motherboard or scrambled BIOS settings.
I'd try resetting the BIOS configuration to defaults using the reset jumper or removing the battery for 10 minutes or so. If that doesn't do it, it's likely a bad motherboard, since you've tried multiple video cards. I'm assuming you've tried running with JUST the video card and no attached disks or other expansion cards to see if you can get a BIOS display?

Re: How can I gain remote access to my computer with no graphics?
I realize it is most likely a motherboard issue and will probably have to replace it, however, I don't have the money to do that at this time. There are a large number of files on this computer that are not in shared folders that i need to get at, and again I can't afford an enclosure and don't have another desktop, so pulling the drives is not an option for me. Hence my remote desktop idea.
Trust me that I have done everything possible to troubleshoot/repair the issue, and at this point I'm really just trying for damage control. Really the only issue I need help with is the remote admin program. |

try to use Teamviewer is a software package for remote control, desktop sharing and file transfer that works behind firewalls and NAT proxy.
Or try to Boot your Computer Using Linux Knoppix 5.1 it is a live CD/DVD. is an operating system based on Debian designed to be run directly from a CD / DVD, one of the first of its kind for any operating system. Knoppix was developed by Linux consultant Klaus Knopper. When starting a program it is loaded from the optical disc and decompressed into a RAM drive. The decompression is transparent and on-the-fly. Its extensive hardware detection allows most systems to start Knoppix without any configuration. Knoppix is Known for: Its ability to automatically connect to most kinds of networks. Its utilities for system repair and troubleshooting. And most of all it's FREE |
