LANParty will i need a dedicated gaming server.
Hello,
I am having a LANparty with 20 or so people within the next week or two. I have access to a 24 port hub and enough ethernet cables so that won't be a problem. I have run 8-10 people LANparties before and just used my computer to play and host the server at the same time, i think it is called a listen server, For 20 people will i need to run a computer with a dedicated server or will a listen server still be fine. We will be playing some newer games that are quite demanding on Hardware. Thanks in advance, Bofhead P.S. i hope this is the right forum. |

Re: LANParty will i need a dedicated gaming server.
i guess it's a trail'n'error thing. i would prep a game server for that day just in case your server does bend over.
i would not use crossover cable. if you have a 24 port switch and it's a fairly recent build then it will do cable detect automatically and it won't matter which one you use but crossover cable usually have lower performance then standard cat cable unless you use them on a dedicated crossover port. have fun and happy gaming. what games you play and what state/ country are you in?
