Router/networking question

Is it possible to have computers hooked to a router, then, instead of having the router going to a modem, have it connected to another computer that has a wireless ISP?

I've had it setup this way for some time, and then, for whatever reason, it stopped working. I cannot figure out what to do to repair the problem, and cannot find this setup really discussed anywhere. Have any suggestions??
