Internect connection sharing, laptop with two wireless network adaptors
Hi,
I have not been able to share an internet connection between two laptops in spite of following dozens of guides on the web. Computer 1: Dell laptop, XP-PRO, 1 wireless NIC connected to hotel wireless. NIC configured for Internet Connection Sharing using 2nd wireless NIC (one is built-in, the other in a PCMCIA slot). Computer 2: Toshiba laptop, Vista business, 1 wireless NIC. Both computers can communicate via NIC 1 on Dell & the NIC on the Toshiba. Using the Toshiba, I can see resources on the Dell but I can access the internet only via the Dell. From my reading this should be possible but I have the following questions: 1. Does the type of connection to the hotel wireless service matter? e.g., wireless vs. a wired connection such as an ethernet port in a hotel room. On one site I read that the connection to the internet should be wired but why should this matter? 2. Is there some kind of restriction in the hotel setting that one wouldn't see at home? 3. Is ICS a problem when connecting Vista & XP computers? I"d appreciate your help with this. |
