can not connect to network or internet
I just got a new hp sr5710y computer w/vista (nVidia 6100v).
I installed a full version of xp. It works fine, but will not connect. I downloaded the drivers for nVidia 6100v, but did not help. Device manager is showing is showing yellow ! by Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI). and, yellow ?'s by Other Devices: Audio Device Other PCI Bridge PCI Simple Communications Controller SM Bus Controller Please Advise, Thank you |

Sounds as though you need a full set of XP device drivers (not just the nVidia driver) for your machine; the Vista drivers won't do, as the driver model is different. According to HP's support website, they only do Vista drivers, as (apparently) they don't supply the machine with an XP option.
I've done a Google search on your model number, and there appear to be several pages with links to drivers for the relevant devices. I don't have the machine, and cannot comment as to whether these links will provide working drivers. If the links don't work, try the motherboard manufacturer: according to the HP support page, your board is an ECS MCP61PM-HM. Among the drivers should be one for an Ethernet controller; installing that should get you internet access through your modem or router; you'll need to set up file and printer sharing separately. Hope this helps. The moral - of little comfort to you by now - is that you need to buy a machine from one of the larger makers with the operating system you intend to use on it. In my part of the world, the little local computer shops are doing quite well building machines for people who want to stick with XP. David |
