WLAN connection speed drops to "1 mbps"

I have now tried 3 different WLAN adapters (one pci and 2 usb) and 2 different routers with the same type of problem. My girlfriends computer does not have this problem and its connected to the same LAN.

The problem have atleast 3 different ways to appear:

>> At startup the adapter cannot connect at all or remains at negotiating for IP. When looking at the windows wlan status window the speed is 48-54mbps but the drops to 1 mbps. It remains like this for a certain amount of time and then it connects.

>> After connecting the speed drops immediately to "1 mbps". Since nothing hardly works its not really "1mbit" but I guess thats the lowest tier it can show. Sometimes it helps to repair the connection.

>> Last problem happens when I download/upload stuff within my LAN. I have tried to my Tvix 6500 and to my gf's computer and the same thing happens. Status shows 1mbps, latency and packet loss is just through the roof. When I stop the transfer it goes back to normal after a few minutes tops. DL/UL while using DC++ or torrents does not cause this problem no matter how high the load.

I run Windows XP SP 3.

Things I have tried so far is setting the WLAN to "802.11g only". It actually seemed to work for a while but I started experiencing loss of connection even if the speed indicator didnt say "1mbps".

Different channels.

The problem seems worse with the manufacturer's connection software so im running win zero configuration.

Any suggestions that doesnt include a reformating is very welcome!

Re: WLAN connection speed drops to "1 mbps"

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
  5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
