[SOLVED] Router freezes up when viewing network

My new Belkin router locks up when trying to “View Computers and Devices” from the Network and Sharing Center in Vista Home Premium (lights stay on but no access to router home page or internet). It works fine browsing the internet but it can’t see the network after lockup, no internet access. Have to power down the router and PC to reset, router says no newer firmware update available. I’m using wired only, I turned off wireless. All firewalls are turned off.

Network properties (tcp/ip) are correct, near as I can determine. Phonepower internet telephone adapter/router is in front of it, then the cable modem.

When connected directly to my Phonepower adapter/router there is no problem, full access to internet and can't break it, but only one port, which makes it hard to network locally. This is my first HS connection (Charter cable) and I’m trying to make a network with a Ubuntu 8.10 system but can’t see shares or printer in either direction. Same problem when the Ubuntu machine is disconnected, but when connected the Ubuntu does not lock up the router.

Belkin G router F5d7230-4. Emachines ET1161-03with Athlon X2.

Windows IP Configuration is the same before and after router lockup:

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Having you tried updating the firmware for your router? I'd look there first.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Router says no newer firmware update is available.
Ethernet card driver is also current.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Try resetting the router to factory defaults and reconfiguring.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Oops! Thought I said I did that twice already - and pressed the reset button once prior to that.
No change.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Pressing the reset button, and resetting to factory defaults are two different operations. Are you sure you actually reset to factory defaults? That normally requires holding the reset button for 15 seconds or so with power on the router.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

I have used the reset button successfully at least twice now, watched the lights on the router flash like the directions specify.

I also used the firmware menu option to reset to factory default and reconfigured three times.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

Go to the linksys page and download the newest firmware and uploaded it to your router. Sometimes the router will say there is no updates and there really is.

Re: Router freezes up when viewing network

That's what I figured, it sounded like it was simply dead.

I'm glad you didn't go to Linksys to download Belkin firmware like one person recommended.
