win98 networking issue

Hello,

I am trying to connect a win98 to a network. The network consists of 2 xp computers connected to a gateway and the win 98 along with another xp connected to a gateway that is connected to the other gateway. The Win98 gets internet with this configuration but will not recognize the other computers on the network. Any suggestions?

Re: win98 networking issue

You're talking a "gateway", then "another gateway".

Can you describe EXACTLY what you have, including the exact make/model of the "gateways"?

This is clearly possible, I've networked W98, 2K, and XP here.

Re: win98 networking issue

Thanks. I will look those up today when I stop by the site.

I was able to "find" the other computers by searching for them. It appears to communicate fine with one of the 2 xp's and sees the other but can't access any files (I am guessing there is an issue with file name lengths with that one). The other xp connected to the same gateway as the 98 can't be accessed at all.

I am fairly sure you understand how there are connected but I will add this below just to be certain.

Code:
xp3
   \___Gateway2_______Gateway1_____ISP
   / ^
98 XP1 XP2

Re: win98 networking issue

If those "gateways" are routers, the machines XP1 and XP2 will not be able to see XP3 and 98.
