Connectivity Problem

Hey guys I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out. I'm having a problem with my connectivity. I noticed the problem right after I reformatted my computer yesterday. While playing an online game this morning my ping would range range from 75-2000 on a server that me and my room mate were both on, and he did not have the same problem. His ping remained around 75 the entire time.

Now the second characteristic of my problem comes when downloading any kind of decently large file (basically like any thing above 3 mb) the file download will start and download at normal speed (600 kb/sec on most servers). Then what happens is after 5 or 6 seconds the download will just stop. Then only way for it to continue is to do something on like such as going to a new web page, refreshing a page, stuff like that.

My room mate hasn't experienced either of these problems and we're both on the same network. I've tried switching ethernet cable's with his and that wasn't the problem. So that's it, and I'm stuck. Hopefully someone can shed some light on what the problem is. Thanks a lot.

Re: Connectivity Problem

does another computer connected to the same ethernet jack IN YOUR ROOM. it may be faulty wiring inside the walls.
if not, it would be caused by the reformat. what antivirus/firewalls do u have?

Please post a HijackThis 2.00.2 Log here.

I'd also like to see this.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
