Re: SMTP Networking software
Look at the email client configuration. The defaults are port 25 for outgoing mail and port 110 for incoming mail for a POP3 email configuration.

Re: SMTP Networking software
i'll explain the whole thing,
So basically my company makes a software and in that software we have to get our client to input their SMTP Address and outgoing email account in order for them to email something from within the software itself. But most of my client have limited knowledge of PC, especially networking. They don't have a clue what's SMTP is and most of them thought that their outgoing email account is the same as their outlook email account. so i was wondering wether there's a software that could make my life easier? |

Re: SMTP Networking software
if all employees or majority have the same email domain then thats your email server.
if that domain is hosted locally then i would check with the it dept for your smtp settings. most likely it mail.mydomain.com or smtp.mydomain.com you also should inquire if this is hosted on a pop server or exchange server if everybody is using their own personal email accounts and clients, i think no, there is no easy way to figure out everybodies email settings edit: also, in exchange server your email address is your outgoing email address but you can also determind it to be a distribution group

The information you describe is often - but not always - provided by an internet service provider or web host, and is subject to change. Your very best bet is to provide screen shots of YOUR product with example information. Rather than use scary acronyms like "SMTP" or "POP3", say "outgoing mail server" and "incoming mail server". Include a decidedly non-technical paragraph explaining how to ask for this information from an ISP, web host, or in-house IT department. Last edited by DrMorganes; 02-15-2009 at 05:52 PM. |

Re: SMTP Networking software
Well we've got around 10 to 15 clients and all have different network settings.
Some are using exchange server, while some use an ISP like optus or telstra as their mail provider.... For ourself, yes we're hosting our own domain. |

Re: SMTP Networking software
so why not get everybody in the same boat. your hosting service provider probably also provides you with email. use those instead of personal ones.
also, looks a little more professional when you send out emails, instead of yahoo, hotmail, gmail and the likes. firstname.lastname@mydomain.com - something like that most hosting companies and domain registrar's use pop3, so something like incoming - pop.mydomain.com outgoing - smtp.mydomain.com but reallity, if you guys stick with random isp's and email providers then there is no easy way around it, because each and every company has there own way of setting things up and there is no tool that does or even could track and log those settings and changes. edit: is that exchange server local, company provided?

Re: SMTP Networking software
if you are running and are managing your email via exchange, what ever comes after doesn't matter because the exchange server will handle all your mail. it retrieves, stores, update, send ... everything.
all you would need to know is your exchange server settings. even if you have an outside pop3 account, the exchange server can link it to your internal account and retrieve the pop email and send it to your inbox. all the isp has to do is provide a static ip to the exchange server and resolve it's dns. if you are connected and log in to the local network the exchange server will find your account settings automatically. a little bit more detail about your question would help isolate the problem and help in solving it. what's the deal with the different network settings and why is not everybody on the exchange server? are you using outlook to retrieve your mail?

Re: SMTP Networking software
hmm...
I'll just get the clients to ask their SMTP and outgoing email account from their ISP or from the IT admin. It seems i can;t find any software to tell me those information. Anyway, Anyone know a command line to capture a screenshot from one of my windows TAB? and put it in as a jpg file in my documents? (Basically a batch file to do prntscreen - paste - save as) |
