browser 8032 event

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

System: xp home version 2002, service pack 3, pentium D2.80GHz 2GB RAM

I have tried following the advice in the microsoft knowledge base to solve this problem but it gets a bit too techie for me and I haven't managed to solve it yet.
This event is repeatedly showing in my event viewer. It reads...the browser service has failed to retrieve the back up list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{ etc.....}. The error code is 00000035

I think this is might be the cause of my intermittent loss of connection. Also, my CPU is running at a constant 25-28% with no programs running. I have run process explorer and it seems this is due to hardware interrupts. One forum said this high CPU load can be due to the network card.

This computer is connected to the internet using a wireless connection to an Orange livebox with the main computer. The main computer is connected to the livebox with an ethernet cable and the livebox connected to the phone cable. There is no connection (as far as I know) between this computer and the main computer. \there are other warnings in the event viewer that are to do with net events, i.e. http namespace reservations are not installed.

Any thoughts? Easy step through's or workarounds?
Thanks for any help
Mike

Re: browser 8032 event

That error is a standard message when the the master browser on the network can't be located. That's a symptom of the loss of connection perhaps, but it's not the cause.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

  • If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
  • For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
  • Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
  • If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: browser 8032 event

Hi John,
Thanks for having a go with this. I have tried to follow your instructions as best I can.

1) Main (wired) computer xp home ed SP2 IE7
2) Problem (wireless) computer xp home edition SP3 IE6 (can’t install 7!)
3) Additional computer Vista home SP1(firefox)
ISP = Orange Broadband
Wanadoo livebox wanadoo-2c84
Wireless connection
WEP
I have given up on using the orange 'inventel' software as I continually had connection problems with it. I am now connecting using the windows wireless network connection.
All computers can connect to the internet. Computer 2) is the one I am concerned with as it drops the connection and returns a lot of errors. Computer 1) the wired connection to the livebox does not lose the connection but has been recording the following error.
I do not know how to turn encryption off on the livebox. I am unable to connect computer 2 with a cable.

Re: browser 8032 event

Well, first thing I'd do is address possible issues with the router.

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
  5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
