Net Install
I have a home network over wifi with ethernet access also. I have a computer with no cdrom or floppy and need to know if it is possible to install OP through the network, or is there a better way?

Re: Net Install
Connect a CD long enough to install the O/S.

This unit (compaq ipaq) is not set up for floppy or cd, I think it was meant to be a network workhorse...
I have been reading about removing the hard drive, installing startup software and then re-installing it in the computer which supposedly will allow me to install the os. I was hoping I could find a way to get my network to see it and run the install from my desktop... Any ideas? |

Re: Net Install
I think I'd remove the drive and copy the distribution media to it, than put it back in for the install. :)
Doesn't the iPAQ come with some sort of restore capability?

Re: Net Install
I think I will do as you suggested, just found it interesting to think if it could be done over the network. My friend bought this computer from a local college, without software...
Thank you for your replies! |

Re: Net Install
Well, it appears the Compaq iPAC does support PXE boot, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.
