ping works but not browsing
Hi, I have a server with 2 NICs with static IPs as follow:
NIC1: 192.168.10.7 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.10.1 NIC2: 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 this problem started 3 days ago. I can ping both IP from other computers in 10.XX and 0.XX but I can't browse shared printer by typing command: \\192.168.10.7 in "Run". when I restart the server, it works fine, and only last a few hours, this happen again, and I had to restart the server. please help me if you have ideas. many thanks Binq |

Re: ping works but not browsing
If you're not running as a Domain, then perhaps you're having an issue with the computer that is asserting itself as the Master Browser for the network. This will happen when running peer to peer. If it's NOT the result of running peer to peer and you are running a Domain, then I'd look at DNS as the issue. Sometimes enabling WINS on the server and adding that address to your NIC config on each workstation can help with that.

REmove the default gateway from each of the specifications.

Re: ping works but not browsing
thanks guys, just found bit more story on this issue: everytime this problem happened, two of the services have stoped, they are: Network Connections and Network Locations Awareness (NLA), by starting the services could not make it work, so I had to restart the server, and these two services have started, but later, they stoped, I had to restart the server.
any idea why? many thanks Binq |
