Network Problem: XP -> Vista (Warcraft III)
I believe this is the most appropriate place to be discussing my problem, as I am not having trouble with the game really only the networking that goes with it. Here is the situation:
The problem I am having is rather complicated and deals with the game Warcraft III but only insofar as networking is concerned. My friends and I use Hamachi to play over a VPN using the LAN feature of the game. I have two computers, one runs Vista and the other runs XP. When I host a game on my XP computer then everyone can see the game just fine, however when I host on my Vista computer then only my XP computer can see the game and none of my friends are able to. My Vista computer can only see games that are hosted by XP Service Pack 2 or earlier. My brother recently formatted his PC and installed XP Service Pack 3 and he can no longer see my Vista games nor can I join his hosted games even though I could before he formatted. My question is what network setting do I need to change in order to attain full functionality between Vista and XP? Here is a list of what I would consider important information: - I use a NETGEAR FS116 Switch connected to a Motorola SB5101 Cable Modem for my internet on both of my computers. - I have disabled the firewall on both of my computers. - I have placed the Hamachi network on the top of the network hierarchy. (Start -> Control Panel -> Network Settings -> Advanced Settings) - I have tried every possible combination of running Hamachi and Warcraft III as an administrator and in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 2 on the Vista PC. - I have checked the port forwarding of port 6112 (as directed by Blizzard) for Warcraft 3 on both Vista and XP. On the XP machine it says the port is forwarded properly but on the Vista machine it says it is not forwarded properly. I use utorrents port checking service. - When I create a game on either one of my PC's the other PC can see 2 games created. (1 is the LAN and one is Hamachi or the VPN) Does anyone have any idea where to go from here? I really don't think it's just impossible to host Warcraft 3 games over Hamachi using a Vista machine, I must be missing a setting somewhere. If there is any other information you need or if you think you can help please let me know. Thanks! |
