D-Link DGL 4300 MAC address filtering
I'm just curious if anyone knows whether or not you even need a WEP key if you are using MAC address filtering on the D-Link DGL 4300 router?
If I'm using MAC address filtering the only computers that will even be allowed to access my network are the ones whose addresses I enter correct? Thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: D-Link DGL 4300 MAC address filtering
MAC filtering is anemic protection and is easily bypassed.
For your reference, here's how to Change MAC address using Windows. Don't count on this type of filtering to protect your network. WPA/WPA2 is the ONLY effective wireless protection. WEP is better than nothing, but is also pretty easily cracked with common tools available on the Internet. A good read: The Six Dumbest Ways to Secure A Wireless LAN

Re: D-Link DGL 4300 MAC address filtering
Thanks. That's kind of what I thought but I'm just having a hard time getting all my devices connected using WEP or WPA methods.
I have two laptops, three Tivos and an Xbox 360 all connecting wirelessly. Although I can get them connected using MAC filtering my connection doesn't seem very stable, especially with my 360. I get disconnected from games a lot (although I'm not disconnected entirely from the Xbox Live service). I'm just trying to figure out a combination that works for everything. |
